It’s Christmas Carol season! I so enjoy hearing them on the radio stations and being sung at our church during the month of December. In fact, just yesterday, as we were singing “Joy to the World” I had a sweet moment with the Lord. 

You see, I was never raised in church or ever really heard of Jesus. I was, however, in the school choir as a young girl living in Wales. One Christmas, we were tasked with learning and singing several carols. Loving music and singing as I do, I wholeheartedly completed my assignment. 

I remember reading the words in the songs about Jesus’ humble entrance into this world, not fully understanding those lyrics but feeling love nevertheless. It was the first time I had ever heard the word of God. I fully believe that as I memorized and sang those words, I was planting spiritual seeds in my future. 

That’s when the Lord showed me that He had been seeking me my whole life, in little ways here and there. Like the song, Reckless Love reminds us, “There’s no shadow You won’t light up, mountain You won’t climb up, coming after me. There’s no wall You won’t kick down, lie You won’t tear down, coming after me!” 

Our God is so loving, and as our Shepherd He will leave the 99 to come find the one – us, you, me. Even when we don’t know Him or reject Him, He is relentless in His pursuit of us. After all, He is our Groom and we are His bride, so He comes after us as His love and delight. 

Now each year when I I sing Christmas carols, I will be remember how passionately and purposefully God pursued and rescued me. He truly is my joy in this world. 

How did God pursue you before you gave your heart to Him? If you haven’t yet surrendered to Him, what is holding you back? Jesus is strong and mighty, He’s not afraid to meet you where you are. Perhaps there is a carol deep in your heart too.
